#70 Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam in 7 Hours:

The very first place I ever traveled to out of the U.S., EVER: Amsterdam.
I am not gonna lie... after a 32 hour travel day (due to many many complications) I could have wandered around Los Angeles, and I would have been just as thrilled.

I was only in this city for a total of seven hours, but for me it was perfect. Streets were lined with apartment buildings wrapped with greenery, little tourist shops, beautifully brick-paved streets, and I could honestly go on and on about this architecture, y'all. Although my time was short, I squeezed this "little" town into my schedule to check this one off the list, and I do NOT regret it!

Arrival

The very first thing I did when I landed was explored the place I was in: The Central Amsterdam Station. Now, I have never been to the New York Central Station or anywhere else to compare it, but this place was massive. I would highly recommend taking a train here, as it adds such an exciting quality to the experience! The picture above was the very first thing I noticed after I stepped out of the station. The following hours consisted of me walking around and discovering the iconic Central Square!

Shopping and Eating

So obviously, aside from breathing in the gorgeous sights and clouds of marijuana smoke on the streets, the next step was to shop! After I went to about a dozen souvenir stores, a couple clog shops, and a kitchenware store, I still ended up at Urban Outfitters. What can I say? It was really big, and I cannot pass that up. My time was mostly spent at McDonald's, where I began learning a lot of the differences in Europe from America. It was probably the first culture shock I had, also realizing how spoiled and unhealthy I am (haha). Paying for the bathroom, asking for ice in my cup, and getting smaller food portions were all things I was not used to, but quickly adjusted to!

Sightseeing

The entire square was my way of sightseeing. For me, the places I wanted to see may not have been as big of a deal to most people. I really wanted to go to the place where the scene from the Fault in Our Stars was filmed. I mostly just wanted to walk around the streets and wander around. The best part was crossing the little body of water that runs through the town and standing at the peak of a bridge. The way the lights hit the water is breathtaking. It is one of those places that really make you want a boyfriend if you know what I'm sayin'. The flowers and greenery make the entire area worthwhile.  As you can probably pick up from the way I am describing this, it doesn't take much to entertain me and keep me in awe. Just seeing the little square cars people drive there made me excited.

Well, I hope I didn't bore you too much with my baby itinerary. This trip I took was about a year ago, but I figured I need to document my memory of it to prove I am checking this one off of the list. This summer, I will begin this more consistent journey and will include of a lot more creative pictures, and specific experiences so that I can entertain, inspire, and provide tips to improve your travels!
