24 Hours in London, England:
This next adventure of mine took place in the last year of August this past summer. Boy, do I remember jam-packing this day trip to squeeze as much as possible in this big city!
The British Museum
Here is the thing about this place, like the rest of this blog, my opinions and advice is honestly all relative. If you like museums, this is definitely the place for you. Heck, this is where one of the "Night of the Museum" movies were filmed (which was frankly the only reason I was excited to go here... sorry/not sorry). Now for me, I zoomed through this museum in about an hour and a half, and y'all THIS PLACE IS MASSIVE. I can appreciate artistry and artifacts, but the fact of the matter is simply that I do not enjoy going to museums. With that said, there were still amazing things here and I do not regret going. I would recommend everyone to go see this place at least once in their lifetime. This was definitely worth my time (ALSO BONUS CAUSE I GOT TO SEE MY FIRST VAN GOGH PAINTING EVER). If you are a true museum fan, I would suggest that you give yourself a day to get through this destination so you have downtime and can get through the whole building.
Buckingham Palace
Not gonna lie, I have mixed emotions about this place. Sure, the Queen of freaking England lives here... I think??? but let me tell ya, there are SO many people there doing the same thing as you: staring at a building where (at the time) there are not even guards to even look at. Basically, I would suggest that if you are obsessed with the royal family and all things of that realm, then by all means go!! Enjoy yourself!! Stare at that gorgeous palace, girl (or boy)! However, if you know that visiting landmarks and pretty buildings aren't something that excites you, then this may be one to skip out on. If I were to go back and tell myself what to do, or what not to do, I would probably advise against the Buckingham Palace and push for Kensington Palace (which we will get to in a bit).
Abbey Road
This was fun. I think this one also depends on who you go with, though. If you are by yourself, it's cool... but it is impossible to get a picture because your tripod would get squished in an instant by angry British drivers. And let's be honest, this one is the coolest to get a picture of. Not to mention there is this little gift shop where you can buy all things Beatles right when you step out of the tube. I will warn you, do not be surprised when cars honk and people yell while you take your picture. YOU DO YOUR THANG AND GET THAT PIC. You gotta do what you gotta do when you're walking down an iconic road... you know what I'm sayin'? Because isn't it all worth it when you can then tell everybody around you that you walked down THE Abbey Road every time a Beatles song comes on? The answer is yes.
Kensington Palace
Remember that one time I said I would've not gone to Buckingham and gone to this place instead... like two paragraphs ago? Yea, well here is why. If you pay money, you can go inside this awesome palace, which you cannot do at Buckingham (I think??). AND you can still get a ton of royal family history and vibes through and through. Now, me being the cheapest person I know, I was not about to pay any money for that, but guess what!! It still delivered. I got to explore this amazing gift shop inside the palace for freeeeee. I think another reason I loved this place so much was from the amount of Princess Diana stuff there was to look at. They had replica jewelry of hers, tons of books, teacups, and plates, and if you are a sucker like me, you want to buy it all. I ended up just getting one Diana book for my mom, but it was definitely worth it! I highly recommend this visit!!
Winston Churchhill War Rooms
Alright, I am sorry; I actually have no pictures here :(. I still want to note this place, because I think it was an incredible experience. I believe tickets were about 30 USD to tour, but it was all worth it. You are able to go through an audio guided tour that you can control individually. Inside you are walked through the history of Winston Churchill and the war rooms where big, country changing decisions were made. It's incredibly educating! In the building, there is this adorable cafe where you can buy treats and drinks too if you get hungry! At the end of it, you are greeted by the gift shop. I personally am obsessed with gift shops, so I really enjoyed this as well!
Camden Town
Another great spot I would totally suggest is Camden Town!! This place is iconic. With countless tourist shops, vintage clothing shops, off-brand items for buy, and amazing food, this place is a dream for shopping. I LOVED the vibes here. It's so cute. Just to give you an example... I am walking down the street and there is a gigantic orange juice stand with oranges being juiced and bottled right in front of me. Doesn't that just make your heart happy? I'm telling yall, it's the little things that get me. Obviously, I bought a bottle, and I kid you not it was the best orange juice I have ever tasted. This place deserves your time, especially if your a shopaholic like moi.
Ferry Ride and the London Eye
These last two excursions are a great way to literally fit a lot of sightseeing in a short period of time. The ferry ride was not only a fun ride in general (due to a hilariously sarcastic tour guide), but we were able to see so many things up close, like the London Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe, and so many other places. The London Eye is similar in that it allows you to see everything at once with a breathtaking view. These two different perspectives given by these two excursions are a must for me! I would definitely recommend these two places!
